Pemberian beasiswa ini diharapkan bisa memberikan kontribusi penting bagi relasi people-to-people antara Australia dan Indonesia. ALAS 2012 akan membidik sekitar 200 orang calon penerima beasiswa dari negara-negara yang berpartisipasi dengan Australia. Adapun beasiswa beasiswa dibuka untuk program studi post-graduate (S-2 dan S-3) di universitas-universitas dan institusi pendidikan tinggi Australia.

Pendaftaran program beasiswa Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) periode 2011/2012 sudah dibuka. NPGS dibuka bagi mereka yang memiliki semangat berkompetisi tinggi untuk berkarir sebagai peneliti dan meraih gelar PhD di Nanyang Technology University (NTU).

Kandidat yang dibutuhkan untuk meraih beasiswa ini adalah kandidat yang berprestasi sebagai lulusan terbaik atau setidaknya setara di perguruan tinggi tempatnya menimba ilmu. Jika belum lulus, kandidat bisa melengkapi syarat-syarat dan informasi penting dari kampusnya untuk mengetahui bahwa kandidat adalah lulusan terbaik atau setidaknya pada level yang setara.

Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) merupakan salah satu program beasiswa yang dikelola oleh East-West Center. OverviewThe Pattern Recognition and Image Processing Group headed by Prof. Thomas Brox has openings for PostDoc and PhD positions in Computer Vision. We are seeking applicants with a strong interest in performing cutting edge research in this very active and exciting research area.

Successful candidates will join a young and dynamic research group pursuing research that has strong impact in the field. The groupâ€™s core research areas are video analysis and learning from video. You will work on recognition, structure-from-motion, or motion segmentation, but especially PostDoc candidates are encouraged to also build upon their previous research experience and may work on related computer vision or machine learning topics of their interest.
The open positions are fully funded with a salary according to TVL13 (approximately 38k-45k Euro or $46k-$54k depending on proficiency). The PhD positions come with direct supervision by the professor and support to enable completion of the thesis within 3 years. Funding for up to 2 more years is available. PostDocs will be mentored to build up their own academic career.
The University of Freiburg is one of the nine top universities in Germany, with the Pattern Recognition and Image Processing Group being directly involved in the bioss cluster of excellence. The Department of Computer Science hosts many top scientists, among them renowned experts in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Ideal candidates should have an excellent degree (M.Sc. or equivalent for the PhD position; PhD for the PostDoc position) in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Above all, they must have a strong motivation, interest for detailed analysis, and a distinct desire to learn. Each year the University offers about 220 new Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRSs), of which about 100 are normally awarded to international students as MIRSs.

Overview
The Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne. MIRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award.

Benefits and conditions
Benefits provided by the MIRS include: a living allowance of $22,500 per annum (2010 rate) a Relocation Grant of $2,000 awarded to students who are moving from interstate in order to study at the University of Melbourne or $3,000 awarded to those who are moving from overseas a Thesis Allowance of up to $420 (2010 rate) for masters by research and up to $840 (2010 rate) for PhD and other doctorate by research candidates, and paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.

ALA Scholarships are for study at Masters or Doctorate level in an Australian university. Study programs must relate to a priority development area: disability, economic growth, education, environment, food security, gender, governance, health, human rights, infrastructure, regional stability, rural development, water and sanitation. ALA scholars also undertake a Leadership Development Program in Australia.

The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) aim to develop leadership and build partnerships and linkages within the Asia-Pacific, while addressing priority development issues of the region.

The ALA program comprises ALA Scholarships and ALA Fellowships. These awards are for leaders or those who have potential for leadership roles that can influence social and economic reform, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region.

The establishment of this Fellowship Programme is intended to attract to NTU and NUS the best and most talented doctoral students from Singapore, the region, and beyond and educate them to be future leaders in science and technology for Singapore and beyond. The Fellowship will provide them with the opportunity to be involved in the strategic research programmes at the SMART Centre and provide them with the opportunity to be co-advised by an MIT faculty member. The student may spend up to six months doing research at MIT. The SMA Graduate Fellowship at SMART provides:

		up to four years of full tuition fees at the student's home university;
		a monthly stipend of S$3,200;
		a scholarly allowance of up to S$12,000 to help cover the expenses associated with a six month research residency at MIT;
		and co-supervision by an MIT and NTU/NUS faculty. There is no bond associated with this fellowship.

In order to be eligible for an SMA Graduate Fellowship, a student must:

		have graduated with an undergraduate degree with first class or second-upper (or equivalent);
		be an incoming new PhD student not currently matriculated;

Overview

The MS Programme is designed to enhance the capacity of developing countries to manage their drylands resources. It is intended to provide young professionals and scientists an international perspective on resource management approaches in drylands. Students enrolled in the 2010-2011 programme will attend a 4-week intense course at CAREERI facilities in Lanzhou, China from 13 September - 12 October 2010. Upon completion of the course work and approval of the research proposal, students will carry out their field research which will be hosted by one of the partner organizations. The students are also required to complete a research project in their home country. The MS Programme is jointly offered by the seven partner institutions as an internationally accepted degree.

It is anticipated that the graduates from the MS Programme will serve in government departments and agencies (e.g., those dealing with agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, and combating desertification), teaching positions in institutions of higher learning, research institutions and doctoral research programmes.

Fellowship and Travel Arrangements

Part or full fellowships will be provided to qualified candidates from developing countries on a competitive basis. Selection Procedure
1. Embassy of Japan will do the selection of documents, and shall notify qualified applicant 1 (one) week before the written exam. (Approximately 100 applicants are selected through the selection of this document.)
2. Written Japanese and English Test will be held in Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan in early July 2010. (English as a test of choice. The value of the higher will be used for selection consideration.)

RE: Project for a MSc/ MRes student on coral and anemone physiology
at the Monaco Scientific Centre.

We are seeking a motivated graduate student to conduct a research
project on the influence of light on intracellular pH in symbiotic
cnidarian cells. The project fits into a wider programme of research
conducted at the Monaco Scientific Centre that concerns the
physiology of tropical and temperate corals in the context of global
environmental change, particularly ocean acidification. http://www.centrescientifique.mc/csmuk/presentation.php. The student
will be joint supervised by Dr Sylvie Tambutte (Team Leader of the
Physiology and Biochemistry Group) and Dr Alexander Venn.

The proposed project will provide the graduate student with the
opportunity to acquire skills in cell biology, with an emphasis on
the application of physiology to environmental issues. The applicant
will need to be already enrolled in a masters programme at another
institution, but the proposed project may fill part or all of a
student’s requirement for research experience. The student will
preferably have some laboratory experience with a background in
physiology or cell and molecular biology. Duration of the project is
flexible with a maximum of 6 months, with a flexible start date from
January 2010. All bench fees/ laboratory costs are covered by CSM and
a bursary of 300 euros per month is available.

The Monaco Scientific Centre (”Centre Scientifique de Monaco” or
“CSM”) is a world leader in coral physiology, particularly in the
areas of biomineralization and symbiosis. Although primarily a French
speaking laboratory, CSM provides an international research
environment, regularly hosting researchers from locations such the
US, Australia and Japan (thus English is widely spoken). CSM is
currently housed in the Monaco Oceanographic Museum and funded by the
Government of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Short project synopsis:
The cnidarian-dinoflagellate symbiosis underpins coral reef
ecosystems. The ecological importance of corals and their
vulnerability to environmental change has led to growing interest in
cnidarian physiology (see Weis and Allemand 2009 What determines
coral health? Science, 329, 1153-1155). We have recently developed an
approach to measure intracellular pH in corals and symbiotic
anemones, a fundamental parameter that influences most aspects of
cell physiology (Venn et al. 2009 Imaging intracellular pH in a reef
coral and symbiotic anemone. Proceedings of the National Academy of
Sciences of the USA. 106 (39) 16574-16579). The purpose of the
proposed project is to build on our preliminary data and investigate
how intracellular pH in host cnidarian cells is modified by the
photosynthesis of intracellular algae under different environmental
conditions. The project will use the symbiotic anemone Anemonia
viridis as a model.

The student may have the opportunity to apply for a fully funded
Ph.D. on this topic at CSM starting in October 2010.

esearch Positions in Agricultural Innovation Processes and Policies

RIU is a research and development programme designed to put agricultural research into use for developmental purposes and to conduct research on how to do this. The programme is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). It follows earlier investments by DFID in agricultural and natural resources research supported through its renewable natural resources research strategy (RRNRRS). While this strategy delivered high quality research the uptake of this research and its impact on social and economic progress was modest.

RIU has appointed the LINK programme (www.innovationstudies.org) of UNU-MERIT (www.merit.unu) to act as its Central Research Team (CRT) with overall responsibility for designing and implementing its research. The CRT is headed by Dr. Andy Hall. Research in Africa is coordinated by Dr. Jeroen Dijkman. Research in Asia is coordinated by Dr. Rasheed Sulaiman.The CRT now wishes to appoint up to 6 research fellows from Asia and Africa to help study RIU’s portfolio of activities in these regions.

These positions would suit junior to middle-level research professionals who are interested in undertaking and publishing empirical research on agricultural and rural innovation. Research fellows will need to be able to work with a large degree of independence and deliver high quality written output. Support and mentoring will be provided by the CRT. Positions could be full or part-time.

Candidates should have:

* Research experience on agricultural and rural innovation policies and processes
* A recent relevant PhD is desirable, but candidates with a strong relevant publication record would also be considered

We are inviting applications for two PhD student positions in the Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics at ETH Zurich. The successful candidates will investigate the physicochemical structure and biogeochemical reactivity of nano-crystalline Fe(III)-(hydr)oxides formed in the presence of natural organic matter. In natural environments, the precipitation of Fe(III)-(hydr)oxides is often influenced by dissolved or particulate organic matter such as humic substances or polysaccharides originating from microorganisms and plants. The structure and reactivity of such Fe(III)-precipitates containing significant amounts of organic carbon are of fundamental importance for understanding many biogeochemical processes, including contaminant behavior, carbon sequestration, weathering and soil formation. One subproject will focus on the molecular and microscopic level characterization of such precipitates and their interactions with trace metals in abiotic systems. In the other subproject we will study their dissolution behavior in abiotic and biotic systems using Shewanella and Geobacter strains, and track speciation changes of trace metals associated with these solids. Both students will apply state-of-the-art analytical techniques, including synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The two sub-projects will be strongly linked and international collaborations are planned.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in detailed laboratory research. Previous experience in the fields of mineralogy/crystallography, microbiology, and inorganic chemistry would be beneficial. Applicants should hold a MSc degree (or equivalent) in soil chemistry, environmental geochemistry, mineralogy, microbiology or a related basic science discipline. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is essential. Female and male candidates are equally invited to apply. Each 4-year programme will comprise a combined first year and a 3-year self directed research project. The first year will include taught modules and laboratory rotations designed to equip students with the knowledge to make an informed choice of doctoral project.

Applications are invited for a studentship on an interdisciplinary project in face recognition. The student will work on automated face processing systems incorporating recent developments in psychology and engineering. The project will lead to hardware implementation of the system on a chip. A project summary is given below.

Candidates should have at least a 2:1 honours degree in electrical engineering, computing science or related discipline. Excellent programming skills in C and C++ are essential and a good understanding of Linux and embedded systems is desirable. Because the final version will be a system on a chip or an embedded device, experience in hardware development is required.

The duration of the studentship is three years, and the successful candidate will receive an annual stipend of £13,290 per annum. PhD fees will be paid.

Project Summary: Automatic face recognition based on human perception

Automatic face recognition is not currently good enough to work in practical settings, such as airport security. In contrast, humans seem to be good at recognising faces. In fact, we are only experts in face recognition when we know someone - our ability to match unfamiliar people to their photos (e.g. ID-cards or passports) is rather poor. Our recent research has revealed differences between familiar and unfamiliar face recognition, which account for human perception. However, this analysis - based on an understanding of how faces become familiar - is completely absent from automated systems. Here we propose a project in which knowledge of human familiar face recognition can be built-in to an automated system, and implemented on a chip. The resulting system has considerable potential both commercially, and as a technique for theory development. The project is highly inter-disciplinary, relying on the most recent research methods in psychology and engineering.

Scope of research

This structured PhD is inspired by the need to conduct rigorous, in-depth research and analysis on the impact and outcomes of contemporary and historical crises. Salford Royal PhD Research Studentship

The Salford Royal PhD studentship is funded by Undergraduate Medical Education to support research into Global Health and related matters and their place and development in the Undergraduate Medical Curriculum. In addition to their research commitments, holders of the studentship will be required to teach global health issues to medical students at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust for one half day per week.

The HCRI will award the Salford Royal PhD Research Studentship for the academic year 2009/10 (Jan 2010 start date). This studentship of £11,250 per annum consists of a maintenance award in addition to full payment of tuition fees. The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Program “EuroSPIN” (European Study Programme in Neuroinformatics) is inviting applications from students having a solid background in mathematics, physics, computer sciences, biochemistry or neuroscience (on a master level or equivalent), in all cases with computer science skills. Documented interest in research like activities (e.g.demonstrated in the form of master thesis work, or participation in research related activities) is of large importance. Neuroinformatics combines neuroscience and informatics research to develop and apply computational tools and approaches that are essential for understanding the structure and function of the brain.Four partners participate in EuroSPIN:- KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden- University of Edinburgh (UoE), UK- National Centre for Biological Science (NCBS), India- Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (ALUF), Germany

These four partners are all research leaders in the Neuroinformatics field, but they have complementary strengths. In addition, two associated partners, the Honda Research Institute and Nordita, participate.

Each student will spend most of the time at two of the partner universities, and also receive a joint (or double) PhD degree following a successful completion of the studies. The mobility periods, as well as the courses a student will follow, are tailored individually based on:

c) the specific research project. During the PhD period each student has one main supervisor from each of the two universities that grant the PhD degree.

Field hockey scholarships are competitive to earn for the NCAA. Unlike football and basketball which award full-ride scholarships to every athlete, field hockey is an equivalency sport in the NCAA. This means scholarships are usually partial and can be divided to be awarded to multiple athletes.

Division I programs have 12 scholarships for the entire team while Division II schools have 6.3 scholarships to award. This means if you earn a .4 or 40% partial scholarship, the coach has 11.6 scholarships remaining. The minimum you can receive is 25% which covers tuition, room and board. 3. Poor attitude: You can be one of the best players in your State but if a coach watches you play and see's you get angry easily, argue with refs, don't finish out the clock, no one will touch you. No coach wants to recruit an attitude like that and have to deal with you for 4 to 5 years.

4. Not contacting coaches: You need to be active and aggressive in your recruiting. Players who wait for college coaches to call them, don't get the scholarship. Take initiative and let coaches know that you are the player for them.
